Marist Rallies Late for 67-65 Win; Career-High 28 for Egger

NEW HAVEN, Conn.  –  The Yale women's basketball team was less than a minute away from victory Tuesday night at McCann arena, having rallied from a 13 point deficit to lead Marist 65-58 after a jumper by senior guard/forward Mackenzie Egger with 2:45 to play – part of a career-high 28 point night for her. The Red Foxes gradually cut into that lead but still trailed 65-63 until a Yale turnover with 23 seconds left. Marist then tied the game with 14 seconds left, and got the chance to take the lead when Yale was called for a foul on a Red Foxes defensive rebound with eight seconds left. Two free throws by Marist guard Danielle Williamson wound up delivering a 67-65 Red Foxes win, as a last-second three point attempt by the Bulldogs came up short.

The loss overshadowed a tremendous comeback by Yale (1-6, 0-0 Ivy League), as the Bulldogs rallied from a 37-24 deficit early in the third. They went on a 17-4 run to tie the game at 41, then battled back again after Marist briefly took a 51-48 lead. A buzzer-beating three pointer by Egger sent the teams into the fourth quarter tied 51-51.

A 12-4 run by the Bulldogs at the start of the fourth gave them some breathing room, but Marist (3-3, 0-0 MAAC) would not go away. Trailing by seven, the Red Foxes hit three of their final six shots and went 2-for-2 from the free throw line to pull out the win.
