Bulldogs Come Up Just Short Against No. 5 Colgate

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's ice hockey team came up just short in a hard-fought matchup against ECAC foe Colgate on Saturday afternoon at Ingalls Rink. The Bulldogs led 3-2 just over a minute into the final period, but the No. 5 ranked Raiders scored two late goals to upend the Bulldogs 4-3 to remain unbeaten in conference play. 

With the win, Colgate improved to 11-3-0 overall with a conference record of 4-0-0. Yale dropped to 3-3-1 with an ECAC mark of 2-3-1.

  • END OF 1 | Yale goaltender Pia Dukaric was outstanding throughout the first 20 minutes, stopping a pair of breakaways. She finished the period with 12 saves.

  • P2, 18:05 | YALE GOAL! After winning a faceoff in the Colgate zone, Mariya Rauf took a shot on goal. As the puck bounced off a defender and in front of the net, Rauf scooped up her own rebound and tapped it in for the game-tying score. 2-2 tie
  • P3, 1:05 | YALE GOAL! The Bulldogs once again capitalized on second-chance opportunities. After Emma McGowan threw a shot on net, Vita Poniatovskaia was there to knock in the rebound giving the Elis the lead. 3-2 Yale

Game Notes
  • Colgate has now won four of the past five matchups against Yale. 
  • The Bulldogs scored its first power play goal of the season after starting the year 0-for-13 with the player advantage.
  • The Raiders were effective on the power play, scoring twice including the game-winning goal.
  • Ray tallied her second goal of the season. She has six total points which is tied for the team lead.
  • Rauf scored her second goal in only three games played so far this season. She has already topped her goal total from last season.
  • Poniatovskaia tallied her third goal of the season. Emma McGowan recorded her first collegiate assist on the play.
  • Murphy earned the victory with 25 saves. Dukaric stopped 28 shots for the Bulldogs. 
  • The two sides combined for 10 penalties during the game. Three goals were scored during power plays.
