SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Yale women's basketball team led Syracuse midway through the second quarter Sunday afternoon at the JMA Wireless Dome, with a three-pointer from first-year guard
Ciniya Moore giving the Bulldogs an 18-16 edge. To that point, Yale had limited the Orange to 6-for-21 shooting (.286) and generated 10 Syracuse turnovers. But SU then went on a 9-0 run that turned the tide of them game, and the Orange never looked back. They went on to top the Bulldogs 78-50.
Yale (1-8, 0-0 Ivy League) overcame Syracuse's size advantage with hustle in the early going, including 13 offensive rebounds in the first half – six by first-year guard
Marisa Chapman alone. But the Orange eventually got their offense rolling behind speedy six-foot guard Georgia Woolley (16 points) and six-foot-four center Izabel Varejão (12 points, 11 rebounds). Syracuse (4-4, 0-0 ACC) outscored Yale 51-22 in the second and third quarters, making a solid fourth quarter by Yale (18 points) a moot point.
