HAMDEN, Conn. – The Yale women's basketball team regrouped after a tough first half Monday night against Quinnipiac at M&T Bank Arena. But a solid final 20 minutes was not enough to overcome a big early deficit, and the Bulldogs fell to the Bobcats 76-50 in their final game before winter break.
Yale (1-11, 0-0 Ivy League) was within 15-12 of the Bobcats after a three-pointer by junior guard
Lola Lesmond at 1:54 of the first quarter. But a scoring drought that ensued would prove decisive, as Quinnipiac (7-1, 0-0 MAAC) reeled off the next 19 points of the game.
A layup by first-year guard
Marisa Chapman at 2:57 of the second finally ended the skid, and the Bulldogs would outscore the Bobcats 9-6 in the final three minutes of the first half. The third and fourth quarters were closely played – Quinnipiac outscored Yale 19-16 in the third and 15-13 in the fourth – but that was not enough for the Bulldogs to avoid the loss.
