NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 16 Yale women's lacrosse team jumped out to a 14-2 lead by halftime against Central Connecticut State on a sunny and warm afternoon at Reese Stadium Tuesday. That left little suspense in the second half, as the Bulldogs outscored the Blue Devils 4-1 for an 18-3 win to improve to 6-0 on the season.
After CCSU (1-4, 1-0 NEC) scored a pair of goals late in the first half to make the score 7-2 Yale, the Bulldogs took full control of the game by scoring the next 11 goals. That was part of a span of 29:26 in which Yale held CCSU scoreless, making this the fourth game of the season in which Yale has held its opponent scoreless for 24 minutes or more. In this case, Yale also had a span of 26:12 in the first half in which it held CCSU scoreless.
Yale (6-0, 1-0 Ivy League) got goals from 11 different players and draw controls from seven different players, flexing its depth by resting its starters after jumping out to a big lead in the first quarter.
STATISTICAL LEADERS
- Sophomore attacker Megan Kitagawa led all scorers with five points (3-2-5). Those were her first points of the season. She, senior attacker Bri Carrasquillo and junior attacker Charlotte Callahan had hat tricks. That was Callahan's first career hat trick.
- First-year midfielder Lauren McCartin, playing her first career game, scored her first career goal.
- Senior defender Olivia Sokol made her season debut and had a pair of ground balls.
- First-year midfielder Paris Panagopoulos had a game-best eight draw controls.
- Junior defender Lyssa Tyler had a team-best three ground balls.
- First-year goalkeeper Laura O'Connor got the start and did not see a shot. Junior goalkeeper Cami Donadio came on in relief for the final 52:26 and made three saves.
TURNING POINT
- Yale jumped out to a 7-0 lead within the first 10:16 and CCSU never got closer than within five after that.
KEY STAT
- The Bulldogs did not allow a shot by CCSU in either the second quarter or the third quarter.
NOTES
- This was the fewest goals allowed in a game by Yale since beating Quinnipiac 21-3 Feb. 21, 2017.
- Yale is 6-0 for the first time since starting the 2001 season 8-0.
- The Bulldogs have won six in a row for the first time since Mar. 5, 2022.
- Yale enjoyed an 18-6 advantage in draw controls and an 18-7 advantage in ground balls.
