Bulldogs Come Up Short at Towson

TOWSON, Md. -- The Yale baseball team dropped a non-conference matchup to Towson 2-1 on Friday afternoon at John B. Schuerholz Park. The visitors only allowed two runs in the first inning and nearly mounted a comeback in the eighth inning, but ultimately the Tigers were able to hold them off.

With the win, Towson improved to 2-10 overall, while the Bulldogs fell to 0-7.

Scoring Summary
  • Bottom 1st | The Tigers scored two runs out of the gate, first on a double by Bryce Frederick, then on an RBI single by Taye Robinson.
  • Top 8th | Following a two-out double by first year Chace Chaplin, teammate Davis Hanson brought him in with a double by his own. But the Bulldogs would leave the tying run stranded on second to end the threat.
Game Notes
  • The matchup was the first between the two teams since 2015 -- a 9-5 win for the Bulldogs.
  • Yale starting pitcher Daniel Cohen allowed two runs in the first but followed up with five shutout innings consistently working himself out of trouble. Carter Kessinger and Tate Evans each threw scoreless innings in relief.
  • Hanson continues his hot start to the season. He has hit safely in six of the Bulldogs seven games and has four multi-hit games during that stretch. Hanson also ripped his fourth double of the season. He leads the team with six extra-base hits.
  • Max Imhoff and Chaplin tallied the other hits for Yale.
  • Towson starter Max Simpson threw well for the Tigers, holding the Bulldogs to two hits through seven innings of work.
