Bulldogs Open California Tour with Loss to Toledo

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Yale softball team fell to Toledo State, 8-5, to open their stint at California State Fullerton. The Bulldogs fell to 1-9 overall, while Toledo improved to 8-9.
 
Scoring Summary
  • T1 | Isabella Fortini got the Bulldogs started with a lead-off single up the middle. Fortini made her way around the bases on two wild pitches and a groundout to score the first run of the game.
  • B1 | Toledo responded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two runs on four hits.
  • T2 | The Bulldogs weren't quiet for long. With two outs, both Carolyn Skotz and Carmen Muscolina both walked for two Bulldog baserunners. Katie Donahey singled up the middle to score Skotz. Fortini doubled in the next at bat, scoring Donahey to give Yale a 4-2 lead.
  • B4 | Yale held its lead until the fourth when the Rockets scored four runs on four hits and regained the lead by two.
  • B5 | Toledo extended its lead to four runs in the fifth inning.
  • T7 | Yale pushed on a late-game rally with a Sophie Woodridge single up the middle to make it 8-5, but Toledo's consistent offense proved to be the difference maker.  
 
Notes
  • Captain Carolyn Skotz made her 100th career start for the Bulldogs after playing in her 100th career game at the Coastal Carolina tournament just a week ago.
  • Isabella Fortini went 3-for-3, earning a walk, two runs and one RBI.
  • Katie Donahey was 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run scored.
  • Libby Peoples went 2-for-4 at the plate.
  • Emma Taylor pitched 3.2 innings in the circle, while Meredith Henderson came in for 2.1 innings in relief.

The Bulldogs will face a familiar opponent on Saturday, March 9 when they square off against Fairfield in the first game of the day before an afternoon game with Utah State.
