Bulldogs Win Rubber Match Against Columbia

Yale picks up first series win against the Lions since 2017

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Yale baseball team continued its winning ways, defeating Columbia 13-10 on Sunday away from home. The Bulldogs picked up their first series win against the Lions since 2017 and did so with a high-scoring offense that totaled 26 runs over the course of three games. After splitting the doubleheader yesterday, the visitors played to a hard-fought victory over the first-place team in the Ivy League.

With the win, Yale improves to 6-6 in the conference standings, tied with Penn and Princeton for third place. Columbia drops to 9-3 in the Ivy League and maintain a one-game lead over Cornell.

How it Happened
  • Bottom 1st | Columbia got on the scoreboard first with a sac fly.
  • Top 3rd | Max Imhoff knotted the game at 1-1 with a solo shot. The Bulldogs scored four more in the inning to grab the lead on an RBI single from Tommy Martin and a double knocking in two runs from Kaiden Dossa.
  • Bottom 4th | A three-run homer from Sam Miller cut the Yale lead to 5-4.
  • Top 5th | Dossa reached on a fielder's choice to score a run for the Bulldogs.
  • Bottom 5th | Columbia took the 7-6 lead on a three-run shot by Griffin Palfrey.
  • Top 6th | The back-and-forth game continued as Yale retook the lead with five runs in the sixth including an RBI triple by Alec Atkinson.
  • Bottom 6th | The Lions cut the deficit to 11-9 with their third homerun of the game.
  • Top 7th | The Bulldogs got one back after Jake Williams scored on an error.
  • Bottom 8th | Miller hit his second homer of the game on a solo shot to make it 12-10 Yale after seven.
  • Top 9th | Yale tacks on an insurance run and seal the 13-10 victory over the Lions.
Game Notes
  • Yale bested Columbia in a series for the first time since 2017 when the Bulldogs swept the Lions in a two-game set.
  • Daniel Cohen picked up his second win of the season by pitching five runs of seven-run ball. Tate Evans came on for his fifth save, throwing 2.1 innings while allowing one run.
  • Martin continued his hot hitting with two more knocks on Sunday. He sports a .526 average over 13 games this season.
  • Imhoff hit his first home run of the season.
  • Jeff Pierantoni added two hits and a walk. He has reached base in 16 straight games.
  • Davis Hanson smashed another double and now has 11 this season.
