Bulldogs Drop Non-Conference Matchup to Sacred Heart

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- The Yale baseball team dropped a non-conference matchup to Sacred Heart on Tuesday afternoon at Veterans Park. Dante D'Amore homered twice including a go-ahead three-run shot in the seventh to lead the Pioneers to a 6-4 victory.

With the win, Sacred Heart improves to 24-19, while the Bulldogs drop to 15-22 overall in their penultimate non-conference game.

How it Happened
  • Top 2nd | The Bulldogs got on the board first with two runs in the second. After Max Imhoff drove in a run on a sac fly, Jeff Pierantoni singled up the middle to score Kaiden Dossa.
  • Top 4th | Yale doubled its lead on a two-run homer by Imhoff. The Bulldogs led 4-0 after four turns at the plate.
  • Bottom 4th | D'Amore hit the first of his two dingers with a solo shot to center to cut into the Bulldogs' lead.
  • Bottom 5th | The Pioneers inched closer with two runs in the fifth, scoring on an error and a double.
  • Bottom 7th | With two men on, D'Amore hit one over the right-centerfield fence to give the Pioneers their first lead of the day. 
  • FINAL | Sacred Heart sealed the 6-4 win, not allowing a run in the final two innings.
Game Notes
  • Sacred Heart completed the season sweep of the Bulldogs after winning at Bush Field on March 13.
  • Imhoff hit his third home run of the season. He tallied three RBI, his second-highest single game total of the season.
  • Chace Chaplin started on the mound for the Bulldogs, throwing one shutout inning. Carter Kessinger, Ethan Lewis, Bryant Reese, and Tate Evans followed Chaplin out of the pen. Evans picked up the loss after allowing the seventh-inning homer to D'Amore.
  • Tommy Martin and Pierantoni both recorded two hits.
