No. 16 Bulldogs Top No. 7 Penn 16-8, Improve to 10-1 for First Time in School History

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 16 Yale women's lacrosse team maintained its grip on first place in the Ivy League with a decisive 16-8 win vs. No. 7 Penn Sunday afternoon in front of a large crowd at Reese Stadium and a national TV audience on ESPNU. 
 
With the win Yale improves to 10-1 overall for the first time in school history. The Bulldogs are 4-0 in Ivy League play and have a one-game lead on the two teams tied for second place, Harvard and Princeton, with three league games left. 
 
Penn, which had beaten then-No. 1 Maryland 11 days earlier, falls to 8-3 overall and 2-2 in the league.
 
STATISTICAL LEADERS
  • Senior attacker Chloe Conaghan, Yale's captain, had a career-high four goals and seven points (4-3-7) to lead all scorers. She shot .800 (4-for-5).
  • Three Bulldogs had four points: junior midfielder Sky Carrasquillo (3-1-4), junior attacker Taylor Everson (3-1-4) and junior midfielder Taylor Lane (1-3-4). 
  • Junior attacker Jenna Collignon had a game-best six draw controls. She added three goals on three shots. 
  • Junior defender Molly McGuckin had a game-best three ground balls.
  • First-year goalkeeper Laura O'Connor made four saves and junior goalkeeper Cami Donadio made two.
 
TURNING POINT
  • After Penn scored twice in the first 6:11 of the game, the Bulldogs shut the Quakers out for 12:13 and built a 5-2 lead. After Penn scored its third goal, Yale shut the Quakers out for 23:25 to get the lead to 14-3.
 
KEY STAT
  • Yale limited Penn to 19 shots, seven fewer than the Quakers had in any other game this season.
 
NOTES
  • Yale was perfect on clears (18-for-18) for the fifth time this season.
  • This was Yale's largest margin of victory vs. Penn since 2001 (a 10-2 win).
  • Yale is 10-1 for the first time in school history. The other best 11 game start for the Bulldogs came in 1980, when ties were possible and Yale started 8-0-3.
