Box Score BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Yale men's soccer team dropped a non-conference matchup to Indiana on Sunday evening at Bill Armstrong Stadium. The Hoosiers topped the Bulldogs 2-0 thanks to two goals by Tommy Mihalic.
Indiana, a national powerhouse and NCAA quarterfinalist last year, picked up its first win of the season, improving to 1-1-1. The Bulldogs dropped to 0-2 after two non-conference matchups against nationally lauded teams.
"Indiana is a top five program and we knew this would be a really tough match and always an extra challenge to play at Indiana for a variety of reasons, but I have a lot of belief in this group and what we are capable of when we put it all together," said
Kylie Stannard, the 5K Corral Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "When the margins are so small we have to make sure we don't shoot ourselves in the foot and we did that tonight. Despite that, we still had our moments to get a goal back and I'm still not sure the reasoning for the referee changing his decision on the penalty he called for us at the end of the first half when they pulled our player down in the box."
"I thought we started the second half really well but then have another defensive lapse and IU did well to make us pay," said Stnnard. "We still had a few opportunities after this but credit to Indiana for protecting their box well and having some key blocks and saves. It was a great experience for us and we appreciate the opportunity to play these types of games. It also says a lot that Indiana has huge respect for our program to invite us here and to have the crowd and intensity they brought tonight."
