NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The two-time defending Ivy League champion Yale volleyball team opens the 2024 season on Friday at the College of Charleston Invitational.  The Bulldogs will face University of the Pacific, South Carolina-Upstate and host College of Charleston.

"We have shown a lot of leadership on the court in our preseason," Yale head coach Erin Appleman said.  "We look forward to a challenging weekend ahead."

Yale notes heading into the weekend:
  • Yale was selected first in the 2024 Ivy League preseason media poll after an undefeated conference season (14-0) last year and won its fifth Ivy League title in the last six seasons.
  • In 2023, the Bulldogs went on to win the postseason conference tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.  Yale lost 3-1 to Penn State in the NCAA First Round.
  • The Bulldogs have won 20-plus matches in each of the last two seasons, and have a record of 75-22 over the last four seasons. Yale is also 47-8 against the Ivy League during that time.
  • Yale returns four 2023 All-Ivy award winners, including reigning Ivy League Player of the Year Carly Diehl.  Mila Yarich (first team), Betsy Goodenow (second team) and Gigi Barr (honorable mention) also return this season.
  • Erin Appleman, who earned her third Ivy League Coach of the Year award in 2023, begins her 21st season at Yale with an overall record of 364-131 (.735).  Her teams are 227-52 (.814) against Ivy League opponents.
  • Appleman's daughter, Emma, just started her senior year at the College of Charleston.
