Yale Opens Season with Decisive 6-1 Win at Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Yale field hockey team opened the 2024 season with a six-goal outburst Friday evening, topping Lehigh 6-1 at Ulrich Field. This was the most goals in a game for Yale – and the Bulldogs' largest margin of victory – in nearly three years. Lehigh falls to 1-2 with the loss.

  • Ellie Barlow opened the scoring, deflecting in a shot by Issy Baileff on a penalty corner at 10:06 of the first.
  • Poppy Beales extended the lead to 2-0 off a Barlow assist in the second quarter. Beales tucked the ball inside the far post from distance.
  • Beales scored again, on a backhand, to make it 3-0 at 33:41 of the third. This one was assisted by Nicole Gotthardt.
  • Hettie Whittington scored a penalty corner goal off a Keely Comizio stick stop less than five minutes later to extend the lead to 4-0.
  • After Lehigh closed within 4-1, Ymre Massée scored off a Lily Ramsey assist at 40:15 of the third to get Yale's lead back up to four.
  • Lauren Venter scored at 46:03 off a Tabs Collier assist for the 6-1 final.
