Bulldogs Drop 5-3 Contest to RPI

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's hockey team opened the 2025 calendar year with a 5-3 loss to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) at Ingalls Rink. The Bulldogs moved to 3-8-1 overall and 2-4-1 in ECAC Hockey, while the Engineers improved to 7-9-2 overall and 2-5-0 in the conference.
 
Scoring Summary
  • P1, 9:18 | RPI opened the scoring with a powerplay goal.
  • P1, 10:57 | The Engineers took a two-goal lead with a pass from behind the net into the slot.
  • P1, 15:21 | David Chen split the deficit in half just about five minutes into the period. Chen received a pass from Micah Berger in the neutral zone and found the back of the net from the slot.  
  • P2, 12:39 | RPI regained its two-goal lead with their second powerplay goal of the game.
  • P2, 15:53 | With the Bulldogs on the powerplay, Berger's catch and release shot off a Ronan O'Donnell pass from behind the net cut RPI's lead to one.  
  • P3, 7:19 | RPI's fourth goal, and eventual game-winner, came shorthanded.
  • P3, 9:38 | O'Donnell put Yale back within one with a backhanded shot at point-blank range.
  • P3, 18:53 | The Engineers sealed it with just over a minute to play on an empty netter.

  • Ronan O'Donnell picked up his team-leading sixth goal of the season.
  • O'Donnell (1 goal, 1 assist) and Micah Berger (1 goal, 1 assist) both had their second-straight multi-point game.
  • Berger and David Chen have scored in back-to-back outings.
  • Noah Pak made 35 saves in goal, a career-high for the first year Bulldog. 
  • Yale has scored powerplay goals in back-to-back games.
