Yale Finishes Seventh at Princeton Fall Classic

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Yale men's cross country team took seventh place (240 points) out of  31 teams at the Princeton Fall Classic Friday morning on the 8K Meadows Campus Course. No. 20 Princeton (55 points) won. Oklahoma's Evans Biwott (22:57.4) was the top individual finisher.

With the Ivy League Heptagonal Cross Country Championships two weeks away, the Bulldogs saw five of their Ivy League opponents Friday – and finished ahead of four of them (Cornell was 12th with 375 points, Penn was 15th with 392 points, Columbia was 16th with 412 points and Dartmouth was 20th with 461 points).

The Bulldogs finished just five points behind the top-ranked team in the Northeast Region, Syracuse (who finished sixth overall with 235 points). The No. 11 Orange – who also sent runners to Wisconsin's Nuttycombe Invitational on Friday – were one of three nationally ranked teams at the Princeton Fall Classic. That list also included No. 20 Princeton and No. 29 Boise State (who finished third overall with 138 points).

The Bulldogs:
  • Senior Owen Karas led the Bulldogs home with a 10th place finish (23:20.4). This was Karas' second race of the season.
  • Senior Kenan Pala (31st, 23:45.4) was Yale's second finisher. This marked the sixth time in his last seven races that Pala has finished among the Bulldogs' top three.
  • Junior Daegan Cutter (56th, 24:07.7) was Yale's third finisher. He moved up 36 spots over the race's final 3500 meters.
  • Senior Braden King (58th, 24:08.4), Yale's captain,  finished less than a second behind Cutter.
  • Sophomore Lucas Cohen (97th, 24:23.0) was Yale's fifth scorer.
  • Junior Guy Stevens (148th, 24:49.2) and first-year Magnus Manley (149th, 24:49.5) led a trio that also included sophomore Seb Sutch (152nd, 24:51.2). Manley, the lone first-year to compete for the Bulldogs, moved up 27 spots in the final 900M with a time of 3:04.7.
  • Yale's other finishers included sophomore Matthew Schutzbank (223rd, 25:19.4), senior Will Sheehy (274th, 25:54.6), sophomore Amaré Fields (278th, 25:58.1) and junior Tanish Chettiar (295th, 26:21.9).
