Three Games Coming Up This Week for Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's basketball team (0-3, 0-0 Ivy League) has three games coming up this week as the Bulldogs host Quinnipiac Tuesday (5:00 p.m., ESPN+, International Stream, Live Stats, Tickets) and then head to Providence Friday (7:00 p.m., ESPN+, Live Stats, Tickets) before finishing with a home game against Loyola (Md.) Sunday (1:00 p.m., ESPN+, International Stream, Live Stats, Tickets).

Last Game
Yale fell 88-60 at St. John's Friday. After falling behind 7-0, the Bulldogs went on a 10-1 run midway through the first quarter to get within two at 16-14. But St. John's ended that quarter with a 10-0 run, and then tacked on nine straight points at the start of the second quarter to take command of the game. The Bulldogs got no closer than within 18 the rest of the way.

Scoring Depth
Four different players have led Yale in scoring or tied for the team lead in scoring in the first three games (senior forward Kiley Capstraw (West Orange, N.J.), sophomore guard Ciniya Moore (Bradenton, Fla.) sophomore guard Ke'iara Odume (Syracuse, N.Y.) and junior forward Luisa Vydrova (Prague, Czech Republic)). Yale has had four players score in double digits in each of the last two games. The Bulldogs had three players score in double digits in the other game.

Scoring Leaders
Senior forward Kiley Capstraw (West Orange, N.J.) and sophomore guard Ciniya Moore (Bradenton, Fla.) are tied for fourth in the Ivy League in scoring (16.3 points per game).

Still Dishing
The move from guard to forward has not kept senior forward Kiley Capstraw (West Orange, N.J.) from serving as the team's primary facilitator on offense. She is averaging 4.0 assists per game, tied for third in the Ivy League. Capstraw, Yale's captain, averaged a team-best 2.6 assists per game last year. This year she is also among the league leaders in steals (2.7 per game, third) and leads the league in minutes per game (38.0).

Skills Transfer
Junior forward Luisa Vydrova (Prague, Czech Republic) has made an instant impact with Yale after transferring from UTEP this past summer. She leads Yale in rebounding (7.3 rebounds per game, seventh in the Ivy League) and is third on the Bulldogs in scoring (12.7 points per game). Her .708 field goal percentage leads the league by more than 100 percentage points. She has improved both her scoring and her rebounding from last year, when she averaged 9.5 points per game and 5.4 rebounds per game at UTEP.

Sophomore Impact
All four of Yale's sophomores have earned at least one start this season, and as a group they have combined for nine starts. Guards Ciniya Moore (Bradenton, Fla.) and Ke'iara Odume (Syracuse, N.Y.) have started all three games, while guard Magdalena Schmidt (Gmunden, Austria) has started two games and guard Marisa Chapman (Middletown, N.Y.) has started one.

Perfection
Sophomore guard Ciniya Moore (Bradenton, Fla.) enters the week as one of 30 players in the country who are perfect from the free throw line with a minimum of 2.5 free throw attempts per game. Moore is 13-for-13.

Scouting Quinnipiac
Quinnipiac (1-2, 0-0 MAAC) opened the season with a win against BU before falling to Rutgers and St. John's. The Bobcats are coming off a 2024-25 season in which they went 28-5 and played in the WBIT postseason tournament.

Scouting Providence
Providence (2-1, 0-0 Big East) has won two in a row heading into Tuesday's game vs. Northeastern. The Friars have added five transfers and five first-years this season. They return just three players who have seen game action in a Friar uniform.
