Bulldogs Outlast Cornell to Advance in Ivy League Tournament

Yale will face Princeton in the championship match on Saturday

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Bulldogs outlasted Cornell in an instant classic Ivy League Tournament semifinal match on Friday night.  The scores of the match were:  25-19, 23-25, 25-23, 23-25 and 15-12.
 
Match summary:
  • The Bulldogs advanced to their fourth straight Ivy League Tournament championship match.
  • Ava Poinsett, the Ivy League Rookie of the Year, stuffed the stat sheet:  21 kills, 19 digs and eight service aces.
  • In the fifth set, with the match tied 11-11, Yale scored the next two points on a kill from Lauren Kellen (12 kills) and a service ace from Halle Sherlock
  • Sherlock, the team captain, tallied 50 assists, 10 digs and two aces. 
  • Betsy Goodenow (6 kills) got Yale to match point, and Yuri Park sealed the win with her second ace of the night. 
  • Laurece Abraham, an All-Ivy First Team selection, finished with 14 kills, while Cam Bolane had nine kills and five blocks.
  • Down 13-11 in the third set, the Bulldogs scored five of the next six points with a kill from Kellen and an ace from Poinsett sprinkled in.
  • Poinsett pushed the Bulldog lead in the third to 20-16, then Goodenow and Abraham combined on a block to push the lead to five points.
  • Arya Jue had a team-best 20 digs and added an ace.

  • The Bulldogs, the No. 3 seed, will aim for their fourth straight Ivy League Tournament championship.  Yale will face No. 1 Princeton at 6 p.m. ET on Saturday.
