STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Yale women's basketball team led midway through the second quarter and went on to hold Penn State to its lowest point total of the season (tie) Sunday afternoon at Rec Hall – but it was not enough to secure a win. The high-powered Nittany Lions offense produced enough to secure an 82-64 victory.
Yale overcame an early 6-0 deficit to get within four at the end of the first quarter, 19-15. The Bulldogs trailed by as many as eight in the second quarter before rallying to take a 28-27 lead when junior forward
Luisa Vydrova followed up a Penn State block by making a layup at the 2:42 mark. The rest of the half was a back-and-forth affair until a last-second steal and halfcourt heave for three capped a 7-0 run by the Nittany Lions that gave PSU a 39-32 halftime lead.
The Penn State offense clicked in the second half, with the Nittany Lions shooting .594 and scoring 43 points. They outscored Yale 25-15 in the fourth to take a 17 point lead into the fourth quarter, where they finished off the win by edging Yale 18-17.
Yale falls to 1-7 (0-0 Ivy League) while Penn State improves to 6-1 (0-0 Big Ten).
