NEW HAVEN, Conn. –
Jack Ohman continued his fantastic start to the season on the mound and
Jack Dauer hit a three-run home run, to lead the Yale baseball team to a 9-3 win over Cornell on Sunday afternoon at home.
With the victory, Yale earned its first Ivy League win of the season. The Bulldogs improved to 13-5 overall. Cornell dropped to 7-7 overall.
Key Performers
- Ohman was outstanding as Yale's starting pitcher, earning his second win of the season. The first year allowed one unearned run through six innings. Ohman struck out a career-high nine batters, while only walking one.
- Dauer launched a three-run home run over the left-field fence in the third inning to finish the week with 11 RBI.
Scoring Summary
- Bottom 2nd | The Bulldogs scored four runs in the second as a result of two Cornell errors. Chace Chaplin recorded an RBI for Yale. 4-0 YALE
- Bottom 3rd | Garrett Larsen led off the inning with an infield single, followed by a walk to Alec Atkinson. With two runners on base, Dauer hit a missile to left for a three-run home run. 7-0 YALE
- Bottom 6th | Atkinson drove in a run with a sac fly to left. Jeff Pierantoni then caught the defense napping with a rare steal of home to add another run for the Bulldogs. 9-1 YALE
- Top 7th | Cornell scored two runs to cut into the Yale lead. 9-3 YALE
Game Notes
- After getting swept in the doubleheader on Saturday, Yale responded well on Sunday to earn its first Ivy League win. The Bulldogs now sport a 7-2 record at home and a 4-1 record on Sundays.
- Ohman has not allowed an earned run through 25.1 innings. Entering the weekend, Ohman was one of two qualified pitchers in NCAA Division I with a 0.00 ERA.
- Dauer hit his second home run of the weekend and third of the season. Dauer batted .400 with 11 RBI through four games this week.
- Hayden Sobecki went 2-for-4 at the plate, earning his third multi-hit game this season.
- Tate Evans closed out the game for the Bulldogs, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings.
