NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The seniors on the Yale women's basketball team left it all on the floor Saturday afternoon in the season finale against Brown at Lee Amphitheater. The trio of guard
Avery Lee (15 points), guard/forward
Mackenzie Egger (11 points) and forward
Grace Thybulle (nine points) wound up as the Bulldogs' top three scorers for the day. They also combined for 26 rebounds – including 12 by Egger for a double-double. But it was not enough to overcome Brown, as the Bears pulled away late for a 53-44 win.
Yale (4-23, 3-11 Ivy League) led by two, 35-33, after an Egger jumper with 2:19 left in the third quarter. But Brown (12-15, 6-8 Ivy League) then went on an 11-0 run that didn't stop until Thybulle hit a free throw with 6:27 left in the fourth. The Bulldogs got within four on a Lee layup with four minutes left, but Brown scored the next five points and never let Yale get closer than seven the rest of the way.
The final moments got emotional when Thybulle pulled down an offensive rebound and passed to Egger for a layup with seven seconds left. That earned Egger a double-double, sparking cheers from the crowd. Those cheers continued as Egger, Lee and Thybulle then exited the game for the final time as Bulldogs.
