Shaw, Ohman Pitch Bulldogs to Doubleheader Sweep of Columbia

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Buoyed by incredible starting pitching, the Yale baseball team swept Columbia in a doubleheader at George H.W. Bush '48 Field on Friday afternoon. Colton Shaw and Jack Ohman combined for 17 innings of shutout ball to lead the Bulldogs to a 7-3 victory in game one, and a 3-0 triumph in game two.

With the wins, Yale improved to 20-9 overall, with an 8-3 record in Ivy League play. The Bulldogs currently are in second place in the conference standings. Columbia dropped to 13-16 overall, with a 7-4 mark in the Ivy League.

  • Starting pitcher Colton Shaw tossed a gem for the Bulldogs, hurling 8.0 innings of scoreless ball. He allowed six hits and struck out five.
Scoring Summary
  • Bottom 3rd | Garrett Larsen laid down a perfect bunt down the third-base line to score Jeff Pierantoni for the Bulldogs' first run. 1-0 YALE
  • Bottom 4th | Yale added two more runs in the fourth. Kaiden Dossa tripled into the left-center field gap to score Jack Dauer. Pierantoni bunted home Dossa on the next play. 3-0 YALE
  • Bottom 5th | The Bulldogs tacked on a pair of runs on RBI singles from Jake Williams and Max Imhoff. 5-0 YALE

  • Shaw earned his third win of the season. He reached a season-high total in innings pitched (8.0) and pitches (121).

  • Yale won its 20th game of the season, tying its best win total since 2022.
  • The Bulldogs have won four of their last five games against the Lions.
  • Ohman lowered his ERA to 0.19, the best in the nation. He has allowed only one earned run over 47.1 innings pitched. He improved to 5-0 this season. 
  • Dossa has reached base safely in 24 consecutive games.
