No. 5 Bulldogs Set for NCAA Championship

NEW HAVEN, Conn.- The No. 5 Yale women's crew team is set to race at the NCAA Championship this weekend, hosted by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and the Ivy League. The three-day event kicks off with heats on Friday, May 30. The semifinals are on Saturday followed by the finals on Sunday. The Bulldogs are at NCAAs having earned a spot for the 22nd time in the last 23 seasons.
 
Race Schedule (Friday Heats)
  • 10:00 a.m. – Varsity Eight Heat 2
  • 11:12 a.m. – Second Varsity Eight Heat 4
  • 12:00 p.m. – Varsity Four Heat 4
  • The semifinals begin at 8:12 a.m. on Saturday, and Sunday's finals also start at 8:12 a.m. The varsity eight grand final, the last event, is scheduled for 10:24 a.m. on Sunday.
 
The Field
  • Joining Yale in the 22-team field are Stanford, Texas, Tennessee, Washington, Princeton, Rutgers, Michigan, Brown, Indiana, Dartmouth, Virginia, UCF, California, Pennsylvania, Harvard, Syracuse, Oregon State, Boston University, Northeastern, Rhode Island, and Fairfield.
  • All three Yale crews are seeded in the top seven: the varsity eight is seventh, and the second varsity eight and varsity four are both fifth.
 
Quick Facts
  • After an impressive performance at the Ivy League Championship, Friends of YWC Head Coach Will Porter and his staff were named Coaching Staff of the Year, and five Bulldogs earned All-Ivy honors. Porter, the winningest coach in the history of Yale women's crew, led the Bulldogs through another outstanding season alongside assistant coaches Jamie Snider and Kristen Wilhelm
  • Mia Levy and Violet Barletta were selected to the First Team All-Ivy, while Hope Galusha, Harriet Drake-Lee, and Maya Meschkuleit earned Second Team recognition. Levy, Yale's captain and an English major, also earned Academic All-Ivy accolades.
  • Yale clinched the Ivy League overall team points title, earning the automatic bid to NCAAs. All six Bulldog crews medaled at the championship.
  • Levy is a recipient of the Nellie Pratt Elliot Award as top female athlete. It's the most prestigious athletic award given to a senior female at Yale.
  • The Bulldogs had a stellar regular season this spring, picking up sweeps over Ohio State, Rutgers, Cornell, Syracuse, Dartmouth, Princeton, and Harvard-Radcliffe.
  • Yale reclaimed the Eisenberg Cup, taking down No. 4 Princeton, as the first varsity eight crossed the line 3.5 seconds ahead of the Tigers (6:07.3) at 6:03.8.
 
Last Time Out
  • The Bulldogs wrapped up a strong weekend at the Ivy League Championship on Cooper River, earning the league's automatic bid to NCAAs and capturing the overall team title with 89 points.
  • Yale secured gold medals in the second varsity eight and varsity four events and claimed silver in the varsity eight to clinch the league's NCAA automatic qualifier.
  • The Bulldogs also won gold in both the third varsity eight and second varsity four, and took silver in the third varsity four.
 
NCAA Championship Rewind
  • The Bulldogs posted their sixth straight top-10 finish at NCAAs last season, as Yale's three boats accumulated 88 points to finish eighth on Harsha Lake.
  • The varsity four was Yale's top finisher, placing fourth in the grand final. The second varsity eight finished fifth in the grand final, and the varsity eight was sixth in the petite final.
