Bulldogs Drop Season Opener to Sacred Heart

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's soccer team dropped its season opener at Sacred Heart on Friday evening. The Pioneers scored three first-half goals to top the Bulldogs 3-1 to earn their first win.

With the victory, Sacred Heart improved to 1-2 this season. The Bulldogs fell to 0-1.

"As always, we knew set pieces would play a big part and especially early in the season," said Kylie Stannard, the 5K Corral Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "Credit to Sacred Heart for their toughness and physicality. We had a huge wake-up call at halftime and I was very pleased with our response and effort to fight back and give ourselves a chance."

  • 7' | Conrad Lee made his first collegiate save off a Sacred Heart corner kick.
  • 20' | Sacred Heart got on the scoreboard as a result of a header by Ivan Morcillo. 1-0 SHU
  • 43' | Danny Losfablos added a goal for the Pioneers to double the lead. 2-0 SHU
  • 45' | Under two minutes later, SHU added its third goal of the half on a score by Koke Gracia Martinez. 3-0 SHU
  • 54' | YALE GOAL! After Simon Adjakple fired a shot on goal which was saved by the Sacred Heart keeper, Sebi Roy put in his first career goal to get the Bulldogs on the board. 3-1 SHU

  • Lee made his collegiate debut in goal for the Bulldogs. He made four saves.
  • Roy scored his first goal as a Bulldog.

"We will learn from the first half and also gain confidence from winning the second half," Stannard said.
