Bulldogs Return Home to Host Dartmouth, Harvard

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Coming off their third straight win, the Yale men's basketball team returns home this weekend for back-to-back games, first facing Dartmouth on Friday, Jan. 30, and then Harvard on Saturday, Jan. 31. Both games are slated for 7 p.m.

Last Time Out
  • Four Bulldogs scored in double figures as Yale took down Penn, 77-60, on Saturday at the Palestra.
  • With the victory, Yale took sole possession of first place in the Ivy League, improving to 15-3 (4-1 Ivy).
  • After the Quakers knocked down a three-pointer to cut the deficit to one, 29–28, with 3:46 remaining in the first half, the Bulldogs responded with a seven-point run. The surge was highlighted by a Jordan Brathwaite dunk and a Riley Fox three-pointer, giving Yale a 36–28 advantage.
  • The Bulldogs maintained control the rest of the half, closing on a 4–0 run to take a 40–30 lead into the break. 
  • Yale stayed in front throughout the second half, as Casey Simmons scored on back-to-back layups to extend the lead to 59–48 with 6:57 remaining. The Bulldogs put the game away at the free-throw line down the stretch, capped by a Brathwaite three-pointer with nine seconds left to secure Yale's largest lead of the contest.

  • Four Bulldogs are averaging double-digit points: Nick Townsend (17.0 ppg), Isaac Celiscar (12.6 ppg), Fox (12.5 ppg), and Trevor Mullin (10.1 ppg).
  • Yale ranks first in the nation in three-point percentage (41.4), and 11th in assist/turnover ratio (1.79). The Bulldogs are also 25th in the country in winning percentage (83.3).
  • The Bulldogs lead the Ivy League in team field goal percentage (50.3) and assist/turnover ratio (1.79).

  • Townsend was one of the four double-digit scorers with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
  • Aletan also had a strong performance with 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting.
 
Scouting the Big Green
  • Dartmouth enters the matchup with a 9-9 record (3-2 Ivy).
  • The Big Green are coming off a 79-69 loss to Columbia on Saturday.
  • In the defeat, Brandon Mitchell-Day led the offense with 20 points and 11 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season.
  • Three other Big Green players also finished with double-figure points: Connor Amundsen (13), Jackson Munro (13), and Kareem Thomas (11).
  • Thomas leads Dartmouth in scoring, averaging 17.9 points per game, which also ranks third in the Ivy League.
  • The Bulldogs have won the past five meetings against the Big Green.
 
Harvard Rewind
  • Yale and Harvard last met on Mar. 1 with the Crimson winning by a score of 74-69.
  • In the defeat, Bez Mbeng tallied his third triple double of the season, and the Bulldogs had the nation's longest active winning streak snapped at 13.
  • Mbeng had 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting with 11 rebounds and 11 assists.
  • Townsend also added 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting with seven rebounds and two steals.
  • Simmons chipped in with 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting.
 
Scouting the Crimson
  • Harvard enters the weekend with a 10-9 record (3-2 Ivy).
  • The Crimson are coming off an 86-79 loss to Cornell.
  • In the loss, Robert Hinton led Harvard with 19 points and six rebounds.
  • In addition to Hinton, Tey Barbour (18), and Thomas Batties II (14) tallied double figures.
  • Hinton paces Harvard in scoring, averaging 16.5 points per game.
