Yale Defeats Cornell 3-1 for Fifth Straight Victory

The Bulldogs improved to 6-1 in Ivy play

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Bulldogs used a loud John J. Lee Amphitheater and finished strong to defeat Cornell on Saturday night.  The scores of the match were 25-17, 18-25, 25-21 and 25-20 as the Bulldogs extended their win streak to five.

Set one (25-17, Yale) Set two (25-18, Cornell)
  • Ava Bogan had seven kills for Cornell.
  • The Big Red hit .483 in the set.
  • Cornell used an 11-1 run to pull away in the set.
Set three (25-21, Yale)
  • Yale used a 10-3 run to tie the set at 16-16. Isabel Patterson started the run and Poinsett had four kills during the rally.
  • Poinsett had eight kills in the set.
  • The Bulldogs had five blocks in the set,
Set four (25-20, Yale)
  • Bethanie Wu dished out 10 assists on 13 Yale kills.
  • The set was tied eight times and Yale broke an 11-11 deadlock and never trailed again.
  • Yale used a 7-2 run capped by block assists from Cam Bolane and Wu.
Notes
  • Yale improved to 12-3 overall and 6-1 in the Ivy League.  The Bulldogs and Big Red have the same record atop the conference standings.
  • Poinsett is averaging 4.08 kills per set in Ivy play.
  • The Bulldogs notched a season-high 15 blocks.
  • Wu dished out a season-best 20 assists.
  • Abraham, the team captain, had a season-high nine block assists. 
  • Betsy Goodenow finished with eight kills and 10 digs.
