Frias Scores Late to Force OT in Thriller; Bulldogs Fall to No. 12 Dartmouth in Shootout

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – It was an eventful night at Ingalls Rink as the Yale men's hockey team faced No. 12 Dartmouth. The two sides battled to a 4-4 tie after overtime, with Dartmouth claiming the extra point in the shootout. The Bulldogs moved to 7-17-1 overall and 6-10-1 in ECAC Hockey, while the Big Green improved to 17-6-2 overall and 11-4-2 in the conference.

Period 1: Dartmouth 2, Yale 1
  • 8:34 (DAR) – Dartmouth broke through on the power play.
  • 9:43 (DAR) – Just over a minute later, the Big Green struck again to double its lead.
  • 14:38 (YAL) – Yale cut the lead in half. Micah Berger picked up a pass from Zachary Wagnon at center ice and found Joe Blackley, who jumped on the rush and fired the puck bar down.
Period 2: Yale 3, Dartmouth 3
  • 4:39 (DAR) – Dartmouth regained a two-goal lead with an unassisted score.
  • 8:00 (YAL) – James Shannon threaded a between-the-legs pass back to Kalen Szeto, who finished to put Yale within one.
  • 18:25 (YAL) – In the final minutes of the period, Ronan O'Donnell slid a pass from behind the net to Donovan Frias, who fed Rhys Bentham as he crept into the slot to tie the game.
Period 3: Yale 4, Dartmouth 4
  • 8:08 (DAR) – The Big Green regained the lead at the midway point of the third period.
  • 19:52 (YAL) – With just 8.8 seconds remaining, Julian Frias snuck one past the Dartmouth goaltender to send the game to overtime.
Overtime/Shootout: Dartmouth 4 (1), Yale 4 (0)
  • After a five-minute, 3-on-3 overtime period, the game went to a shootout, where Dartmouth secured the victory.

  • Joe Blackley scored his first collegiate goal.
  • Noah Pak made 22 saves in goal for the Bulldogs.
  • Julian Frias scored his first goal of the season.
  • Donovan Frias picked up his 14th assist of the season on Julian's goal — his first assist on a goal for his brother at Yale.
  • Donovan Frias recorded his third three-assist game of the season.
  • Zachary Wagnon went 9-for-18 in the faceoff circle.
  • This was the first shootout at Ingalls Rink since Yale defeated RPI on Feb. 3, 2024.
  • It was Yale's first shootout this season, their last coming on Feb. 22, 2025, at Princeton.
