TAMPA, Fla. – The Yale softball team closed play at the Fonesca Memorial Tournament with a 5-4 loss to DePaul. The Bulldogs moved to 1-4 overall, while the Blue Demons improved to 7-3.
Scoring Summary
- T1 – Demi Donahoe gave Yale its first baserunner of the game, reaching on a fielding error before stealing second. Libby Peoples continued her impressive weekend with a single to right field, scoring Donahoe from second to put Yale on the board. (YAL 1, DEP 0)
- T3 – Yale extended its lead in the third. Peoples delivered again with a two-out single to center and advanced on a wild pitch. Grace Westmoreland then worked a full count before doubling to left center, driving in Peoples to make it 2-0. (YAL 2, DEP 0)
- B3 – DePaul answered in the bottom half of the inning, scoring three runs on four hits to take the lead. (DEP 3, YAL 2)
- B4 – The Blue Demons extended their advantage with a two-run home run to center field. (DEP 5, YAL 2)
- T6 – The Bulldogs mounted a push in the sixth. Ella Gandolfo singled to start the rally before pinch hitter Kaitlyn Oikle ripped a full-count triple down the right field line to cut into the deficit. Elena Ohe followed with an RBI single to right field, bringing Yale within one. (DEP 5, YAL 4)
- B6 – Yale recorded two quick outs and later escaped the inning, stranding two Blue Demon runners and keeping the deficit at one.
- T7 – The Bulldogs put two runners on with one out, but DePaul escaped the jam to secure the one-run victory.

The Bulldogs return to action next weekend in Atlanta, Ga., for a five-game set hosted by Georgia Tech and Georgia State. Yale opens with a doubleheader against Georgia State on Friday, Feb. 20, then faces the College of Charleston and Georgia Tech on Saturday, Feb. 21, before closing the weekend against Georgia State on Feb. 22.
