NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 40 Yale women's tennis team kicked off the last weekend of the regular season in style, picking up a big 4-1 victory over No. 39 Princeton on Saturday afternoon at Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.
With the victory, Yale improved to 18-3 overall (5-1 Ivy) and remains undefeated at home with a 7-0 record. Princeton dropped to 17-3 overall (5-1 Ivy).
Yale can secure the Ivy League title and the conference's automatic bid under several scenarios on Sunday. With a win over Penn and a Princeton loss, Yale clinches the outright title. If Yale defeats Penn and Princeton also wins, Yale still earns a share of the Ivy title along with the league's automatic bid. In the event of a loss to Penn, the Bulldogs can still claim a share of the title and the automatic bid if both Princeton and Columbia also lose. Finally, a loss to Penn combined with a Princeton loss would still allow Yale to secure a share of the Ivy League title.
Yale got off to a fast start, as the duos of
Orly Ogilvy and
Leena Friedman and
Shyla Aggarwal and
Erin Ha secured the doubles point. The Bulldogs then continued the momentum in singles, as Ogilvy, Friedman, and Aggarwal picked up wins.
