Moynihan's Game-Winner Lifts No. 9 Men’s Lacrosse Past Brown; Clinches Ivy Tournament Berth

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Peter Moynihan scored the go-ahead goal with 1:34 remaining as the No. 9 Yale men's lacrosse team held off Brown, 14-13, on Saturday afternoon at Stevenson-Pincince Field to close the regular season with its sixth straight victory, and clinched a berth in the Ivy League Tournament for the 15th consecutive year.
 
The Bulldogs trailed by as many as four in the first half and were down 11-10 late in the third quarter before Dylan Blekicki scored with one second left in the frame to tie the game. Brown twice went back in front in the fourth, but Yale answered both times before Moynihan delivered the winner.
 
With the victory, Yale improved to 9-4 overall (4-2 Ivy), while Brown fell to 6-7 (1-5 Ivy).
 
Notable Performances
  • Connor Gately paced Yale with four goals and added three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
  • Sean Grogan finished with two goals, one assist and four ground balls.
  • Luke Pascal added two goals and one assist, including the tying goal with 4:55 left in the fourth quarter.
  • Blekicki scored twice, including the buzzer-beating equalizer with one second left in the third quarter.
  • Moynihan tallied a goal and an assist, with his unassisted score at 1:34 proving to be the game-winner.

  • Q1 | Brown struck first less than two minutes into the game, but Yale answered with goals from Gately and Grogan to take a 2-1 lead. The Bears responded with three of the final four goals of the quarter, including Jackson Wolfram's score at 1:22, to take the early edge. 4-3 BROWN
  • Q2 | The Bears opened the second quarter with back-to-back goals from Jameson Steele and Ennis Udo to push the lead to 6-3. Pascal stopped the run off a feed from Moynihan, and Blekicki and Gately scored 44 seconds apart late in the frame to pull Yale within two at halftime. 8-6 BROWN
  • Q3 | After Wolfram extended Brown's lead to 9-6, Gately scored unassisted to start the comeback. Brown went ahead 10-7, but Yale ripped off three straight goals from Crotty, Gately and Jackson to tie the game. Udo briefly restored Brown's lead with 25 seconds left, before Grogan found Blekicki with one second remaining to even the score heading into the fourth. 11-11
  • Q4 | Marcus Wertheim put Brown in front at 6:29, but Pascal answered off a feed from Cashion. Brady O'Kane gave the Bears one more lead at 4:12, before Grogan found Pascal less than 71 seconds later to tie it again. Moynihan then buried the winner unassisted with 1:34 left, and Yale closed out the one-goal victory. 14-13 YALE
