Keisha Hampton, a former WNBA player who starred at DePaul, has joined the Yale women's basketball staff as an assistant coach. Dalila Eshe, Yale's Joel E. Smilow, Class of 1954 Head Coach of Women's Basketball, announced the hiring Tuesday.

"Keisha is a very exciting addition to our staff," said Eshe. "She brings a wealth of basketball knowledge and experience, as well as a passion for mentoring young women to reach their full potential on and off the court."
 
After earning her B.A. in communications and media studies from DePaul in 2012, Hampton embarked on a pro playing career that included stops in the WNBA along with seven different countries – Africa, France, Israel, Italy, Poland, Saudi Arabia and Spain. She was a second round draft pick by the Seattle Storm in the 2012 WNBA Draft and eventually played with Minnesota and Chicago. 
 
Beyond her playing career, Hampton has been active off the court. In 2018 she co-founded 2KLUTCH Academy, a nonprofit youth development organization in her hometown of Philadelphia focused on mentorship, confidence-building and athletic development for young women. 
 
At DePaul, Hampton finished her college career with 1,574 points. In her senior year (2011-12), prior to a season-ending injury she was on the preseason Wooden Award List and the preseason Wade Watch List. She also was named first-team preseason All-America by The Sporting News, Athlon and College Sports Madness. In her junior year she was named honorable mention All-America by the Associated Press and the WBCA. 
 
DePaul made the NCAA Tournament and won 21 or more games in each of Hampton's four seasons there. That included a high of 29 wins in 2010-11, when the Blue Demons tied for second in the Big East (with a conference record of 13-3) and advanced to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament. 
 
In addition to playing for DePaul, while in college Hampton earned gold playing for the USA at the World University Games in 2011. 
 
Basketball runs in Hampton's family. Her father, John, played for coaching legend John Chaney on the 1978 NCAA Division II National Championship team at Cheyney. Her brother, John Jr., played at Mansfield from 2004-2008.
