NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A contingent from Yale lightweight crew enjoyed success representing the United States at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships this past week, with
Timmy Parsons (Eugene, Ore.) earning a pair of medals while
Ry Natterson (Los Angeles, Calif.) and
Fielding Staelin (Nashville, Tenn.) finished fourth in their event.
Parsons capped his U23 Championships experience with a gold medal on Sunday in the Under 23 Mixed Eight (BMix8+). The mixed eight saw the gold medal-winning US women's four join forces with the bronze medal-winning US men's four for the inaugural mixed eight event. The US took an early lead and never let up, finishing in 5:51.72. Second-place Romania finished in 5:52.47.
On Saturday, Parsons earned bronze in the U23 men's four (BM4-). Parsons and the men's four advanced to the semifinals after winning their heat Thursday, then finished second in the semis to make it through to the A Final. There, they moved into the top three in the second 500 meters and held on to finish third (6:00.26), trailing only Great Britain (5:56.10) and Australia (5:58.94).
Natterson and Staelin competed together in the U23 lightweight men's double sculls (BLM2x). They advanced to the A Final after placing third in their heat Thursday. In Sunday's final, they moved into the top four in the second 500 meters and held off Italy for fourth (6:36.58), the best U.S. finish in the event since 2015. Germany won in 6:30.25.
The 2026 World Rowing Under 23 Championships took place July 23-26 on the Wedau Regatta Course in Duisburg, Germany.
Ry Natterson
A rising junior, Natterson rowed in Yale's 1V throughout this past spring – primarily in the one seat. He was a part of wins over Columbia, Dartmouth, Navy and Penn.
In his first season at Yale (2024-25) Natterson rowed in the 2V, earning bronze at Sprints.
Natterson is a graduate of Crossroads School for Arts & Sciences. He competed for California Yacht Club.
Timmy Parsons
Parsons, Yale's captain this past season, rowed in the 1V throughout the season. He was a part of wins over Columbia, Dartmouth, Navy and Penn.
Parsons was also in Yale's first varsity eight throughout the spring of 2025, helping the Bulldogs to wins over Georgetown, MIT and Navy. He has been in the 1V since his first season of racing with the Y150, 2022-23. During the fall semester of 2023, he raced in the varsity eight that placed fifth at the Head of the Charles Regatta. He then spent the spring of 2024 training through Texas Rowing Center in preparation for the USRowing Olympic Trials, where he placed third in the lightweight double.
Parsons has competed at the U23 World Rowing Championships in each of the past three years. In 2025 he competed in the quadruple scull boat (BM4x). He won the B Final (seventh overall) in the lightweight single in 2024 and placed second in the C Final (14th overall) in the lightweight double in 2023.
Parsons is a graduate of South Eugene High School.
Fielding Staelin
A rising junior, Staelin has been in Yale's 1V throughout his career. He rowed primarily in the six seat this past season.
Staelin is a graduate of Montgomery Bell Academy.
