No. 17 Yale Opens Ivy League Play With 2-1 Shootout Win vs. Brown

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior forward/midfielder Chiara Picciafuoco scored the game-winner in the seventh round of the shootout after overtime as the No. 17 Yale field hockey team beat Brown 2-1 Friday night at Johnson Field in the Ivy League opener.

The teams were tied 1-1 after overtime, then each scored one goal in the first five rounds of the shootout. That led to a series of sudden-victory shootout rounds. After both teams scored in the sixth round, sophomore goalkeeper Amelie Schwarzkopf made a kick save on Brown's Emily Jury to start the seventh round. That set up Picciafuoco's chance to win it. She dribbled in on Brown keeper Kylee Del Monte, spun and fired a backhander high into the cage for the win.

Yale improves to 5-0 overall (1-0 Ivy League), while Brown falls to 2-3 (0-1 Ivy).
