PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Yale women's cross country team opened the season Friday evening with a 4K at Providence's Friar Invitational. Competing among nine teams, the Bulldogs finished fifth with 143 points. Providence (22 points) won.

The Bulldogs:

• Yale's top four – junior Zoe Martonfi (19th, 14:49.7), sophomore Phoebe Benun (23rd, 14:53.6), senior Hebe Chadwick (24th, 14:56.2) and first-year Naomi Douglas (28th, 14:59.2) – were separated by less than 10 seconds.
• Yale's next three – senior Daniella Henderson (53rd, 15:36.9), junior Sylvie Sanok Dufallo (54th, 15:37.0) and junior Julie Piot (55th, 15:37.7) – were separated by less than one second.
