Thomas Rice, Yale’s Head Athletic Trainer for Football, began his current role in the spring of 2021.
Rice came to New Haven from Fort Worth, Texas, where he served as an assistant athletic trainer for the TCU Horned Frogs football team for four seasons.
His position at Yale allows him to continue his work with collegiate football student athletes. He was an athletic trainer for the University of Kentucky from 2012 to 2014 while earning his Master's Degree in Athletic Training. He then served as an athletic trainer for the football teams at the University of Houston as an intern from 2014-15, and at Louisiana Tech from 2015-2017.
Rice received his Bachelor’s of Science in Athletic Training from Ithaca College in 2012, and is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength & Conditioning Association. He also holds certifications in spinal manipulation, dry needling and myofascial decompression.
Rice, who grew up in Rochester, N.Y., lives in West Haven with his fiancé, Caroline, and their two dogs, a blue heeler named Tex and a golden retriever named Poppy.
