NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Yale first baseman Griffin Dey (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) was named second team ABCA/Rawlings Northeast All-Region on Wednesday. This is the second straight year he has been named all-region by the ABCA.
Dey was one of the best hitters in the Ivy League this past season, displaying impressive bat speed and power. He finished second in the league in on-base percentage (.482), third in slugging percentage (.651) and fifth in batting average (.362). He tied for second in homeruns with 11 and was third in walks with 35. He tied for third in RBIs with 44.
Dey finished his career second on Yale's career homerun list with 29, trailing only Ryan Lavarnway '09 (33). Dey's 126 career RBIs rank fifth on Yale's all-time list. He was part of a remarkable run by the Bulldogs in recent years, including Ivy League championships in 2017 and 2018 and a pair of wins in the 2017 NCAA Tournament.
Dey was one of four Bulldogs -- a school record -- selected in the MLB Draft last week, as he was picked in the 23rd round by the Detroit Tigers.
A member of Grace Hopper College at Yale, Dey received his degree in political science last month. Last month he also earned his second honorable mention All-Ivy League honor.
The ABCA All-Region teams are voted on by members of the ABCA and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. I All-America Committee, which is chaired by Tommy Raffo of Arkansas State University.
