Bryant Rallies To Edge Yale 69-58

NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Big second halves from a pair of players helped Bryant top Yale Friday afternoon. Peter Lambert scored 13 of his 16 points in the final 20 minutes, and Nick Pontes had all 15 of his points in the second stanza to lead Bryant to a 69-58 victory at the Chace Athletic Center. Ross Morin scored 17 points to pace the Bulldogs.

Yale played an excellent first half, shooting 52.2 percent from the field, while holding Bryant to 31.6 percent. The Bulldogs led 11-2 after six minutes, and built the lead to 16, 31-15, on Morin's layup with 2:53 remaining.

The second half, though, was a different story. Bryant opened the half with an 18-3 run, capped by a Chris Birrell three-pointer that tied the score at 37-37 with 13:50 left. Birrell's three-pointer nearly five minutes later gave Bryant the lead for good, 44-41.

Birrell made three treys in the game and finished with 14 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals in 35 minutes. Barry Latham also added 14 points and five assists.

Morin was 6 of 11 from the field to lead the Bulldogs. He is averaging 18.0 points in his last three games. Travis Pinick added 13 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Porter Braswell scored eight points and Alex Zampier and Garrett Fiddler had seven apiece. Michael Sands pulled down eight rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench.

The Bulldogs, who were playing their third game in the last six days, outrebounded Bryant 39-28.

Yale is right back in action on Saturday, hosting MIT at 2 p.m. at the John J. Lee Amphitheater. It will be the first home game for the Bulldogs since a Dec. 3 win over Holy Cross.
