NEW HAVEN, Conn. –Following a 2018 Ivy League Championship and an appearance at the NCAA Regionals, the Yale men's golf team tees off its fall campaign when it travels to Farmingdale, N.Y., this weekend for the Doc Gimmler Invitational hosted by St. John's.
The opening event of the 2018-19 golf season takes place at the Bethpage Red Course, a par-70, 7,092 yard course that plays host to a pair of 18-hole rounds on Saturday and a third and final round Sunday.
Yale returns nine of its 12 golfers from last season, including Ivy League Player of the Year and senior captain James Nicholas, who recently won the F.A. Borsodi Student Championship for the third consecutive time last weekend. Another key golfer for head coach Colin Sheehan '97 this season is senior Eoin Leonard who was the 2017 Ivy medalist, helping the Elis take the league crown by 22 strokes.
Last year, Yale finished fourth out of the 14 teams competing at the Doc Gimmler. The Elis are seeking their fourth victory since 2013 at the two-day event featuring 12 other schools.
