Re-Match of 2018 NCAA Tourney

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 4 Yale Men's Lacrosse Team has a very challenging early-season schedule. After a pair of one-goal games to begin the campaign, the Bulldogs host UMass this Saturday in a 3 p.m. game airing live on ESPN+ and Stretch Internet (international).

Yale and UMass met last year at New Haven in the first round of the NCAA Tournament and the Bulldogs won that by two goals. Yale is 9-19 all-time against the Minutemen, including a pair of wins last year. The first meeting was 1972, a 13-4 win by UMass at New Haven.

Yale beat UMass 13-10 at Amherst during the regular season and then 15-13 in the NCAAs at Reese Stadium in the first-ever post-season meeting. Jackson Morrill led the Blue with 8 goals and 13 points combined against the Minutemen, including 7 tallies in the post-season contest.

Yale rebounded from an 11-10 OT loss to Villanova by knocking off No. 2 Penn State 14-13. TD Ierlan dominated the X by winning 25 face-offs and grabbing 22 ground balls. Jackson Morrill had 2 goals and 7 points and Matt Gaudet and Brendan Rooney each hit the net 3 times, while the Eli defense held one of the nation's most powerful offenses far below its season average.

Like Yale, UMass opened the season with an OT loss at home. The 12-11 game with Army was followed by an 11-7 loss to Ohio State and then a 12-9 win at Harvard last weekend.
