Both 2-0 in Ivy Play
A pair of lacrosse teams on long winning streaks meet at Franklin Field on Saturday trying to stay perfect in league play. The No. 2 Bulldogs, winners of six straight, take on a Penn Quakers squad seeking its fifth consecutive victory at 2:30 on ESPN+ and NBC Sports Philadelphia Plus (Tape Delay).
Yale leads the all-time series against Penn, 56-27, and has won 7 consecutive, including a 12-6 decision at New Haven last year in the regular season and a 21-6 game in the Ivy Semifinal at New York City. The Elis are 4-0 vs. the Quakers in post-season contests, all Ivy Tournament semis in different places.
Matt Gaudet had a career-high 7 goals, Ben Reeves scored 4 and handed out 3 assists and Jackson Morrill pitched in 5 points as Yale recorded the highest scoring total in Ivy Tourney history last May against Penn at Wien Stadium in New York City.
Yale scored six straight times in the second half to blow open a close game before beating Air Force 13-6 on Tuesday at New Haven. Matt Gaudet had 3 goals, Jackson Morrill had 2-3-5 and Jack Tigh added 2-1-3 in the first meeting of the two schools in 11 years. Jack Starr and Hoyt Crance combined for 11 saves in the Yale net.
Penn (4-3, 2-0 Ivy) may have had the toughest of the non-league slates to begin the season with a trio of top 5 teams in Maryland, Penn State and Duke and then Villanova. The Quakers dropped the first three and have rebounded with four straight wins, including last weekend at Ithaca. Adam Goldner scored with 17.9 seconds left to give Penn a 16-15 win at No. 8 Cornell.
