Yale Faces Purple Eagles Friday At 5:15 p.m., Stags On Labor Day At 4:30 p.m.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's soccer team kicks off the 2018 season with a pair of games over Labor Day weekend. The Bulldogs meet Niagara on Friday at 5:15 p.m. and have a Monday date with Fairfield at 4:30 p.m. Both games will be played at the Quinnipiac Soccer Stadium while the new turf is installed at Reese Stadium.

Here are notes on Yale's season openers:

* The Bulldogs return three All-Ivy players from last year. Senior forward Kyle Kenagy earned second team recognition after tying for the team lead with seven points. Junior midfielder Miguel Yuste and senior defender Cameron Riach, the team captain, were honorable mention selections.

* Yale also welcomes back its top seven scorers from a year ago, including Aldo Quevedo, who had three goals and one assist.

* There is one interesting addition who brings a unique experience to the Yale roster. Senior Robert Mooney joins the team this fall after winning a national championship with the Yale men's lacrosse team last spring. Mooney, who earned second team All-Ivy recognition last spring in lacrosse, was a four-year letterwinner in soccer at the Lawrenceville School before coming to Yale. He will return to the lacrosse team for the spring season.

* The Bulldogs are playing Niagara for the first time.

* Niagara head coach Bill Boyle and Yale coach Kylie Stannard were together on Michigan State's staff is 2010.

* Yale and Fairfield are playing for the first time since 2014. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series 13-11-2. Each of the last four games between the teams have been 1-0 Fairfield victories.

The Purple Eagles are playing their third game of the season and second in the state of Connecticut. They dropped a 1-0 decision at UConn last Sunday. Niagara plays at Hartford on Monday. The Purple Eagles return 18 letterwinners from last year's team and were picked 11th in the MAAC preseason poll.

The Stags are the defending MAAC champions. They fell to the University of New Hampshire in the first round of last year's NCAA Tournament. Fairfield was picked third in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Don Junior-Bobe and Matt McGlinchey return for the Stags in 2018 after accounting for a good part of last year's offense. Junior-Bobe, who was named one of the top 50 freshmen in Division I last year, posted six goals for 12 points while McGlinchey added two goals and four assists for eight points.
