NEW HAVEN, CT – Yale competed in the second day of the Ivy Plus Championships earlier today, with matches in both Princeton, New Jersey at Princeton University and New Haven, Connecticut at Yale University. The same eight players as yesterday competed, with four at Yale and four at Princeton University – with the same breakdown in terms of locations as yesterday.
The Bulldogs came out with energy in their doubles matches at the Yale location. The duo of senior captain Nathan Brown and first-year Arnav Dhingra defeated Penn pair Kaden Funk and Aleks Huryn in an 8-5 match. Attention centered on Bulldog senior Dennis Wang and sophomore Cody Lin's nail-biting match against Brown's Will Bader and Austin Hearst. After a close tiebreaker game, Wang and Lin topped Brown's pair in an 8-7 (6) win. Although Yale struggled in singles, Dhingra shined again in a dominant 6-1, 6-1 victory over Brown's Alan Arocho, showcasing the young talent's promise.
At the Princeton University location, the Bulldogs found a spark in the Yale duo of first-year Michael Sun and sophomore Alan Sou. Battling against Harvard's pair of Harris Walker and Samuel Beren, Sun and Sou put together a commanding performance in an 8-2 victory. The win advanced Sun and Sou to the final of their draw, where they will face Columbia University's Jack Turchetta and Rian Pandole. Columbia's pair topped University of Pennsylvania's Max Cancilla and Noah Makarome 8-4 to reach the final. Unfortunately, Bulldog juniors Dylan King and Ryan Cheng did not find the same success as Sun and Sou in their semifinal match against Cornell's Lev Kazakov and Evan Bynoe. Despite a hard-fought performance, the duo fell 8-4 to Cornell's pair.
Sun and Sou will play their final match tomorrow at 8:30 A.M. tomorrow morning at Princeton University. At the Yale location, singles play begins at 10 A.M. tomorrow.
