The Yale men's tennis team will kick off their 2019 spring campaign against a trio of non-conference foes this weekend at the United States Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. The Bulldogs begin Friday evening against West Coast visitor Cal Poly, followed by a Saturday doubleheader featuring Army and Michigan State of the Big Ten.
In their return to action, the Bulldogs will look to build off of a promising fall, which ended with standout individual performances at the Connecticut State Championships from Michael Sun and Dylan King. The duo teamed up to turn in an undefeated weekend of doubles play, and are sure to continue their success as a top doubles pair. The return from injury of junior Andrew Heller and sophomore Cody Lin should provide additional talent and depth to the Bulldogs' lineup.
On the singles side, the fall season proved promising for the boys in blue. Junior Ryan Cheng, a round of 16 finisher in the ITA Northeast Regional, looks to be a reliable performer; his showing at regionals was complemented by impressive displays by first-year Arnav Dhingra and senior veteran Dennis Wang.
As the first set of matches in a lengthy non-conference slate for the Bulldogs, this weekend will provide a valuable opportunity to gain match experience and test new doubles pairings in preparation for the rest of the season. Doubles against the Mustangs of Cal Poly will commence at 6 p.m. Friday.
