The Yale Men's Tennis Team defeated Cal Poly in a hard-fought duel Friday night in West point, New York. Among the top performers of the day were juniors Ryan Cheng and Dylan King. The Bulldogs will continue play on Saturday against Army and Michigan State.
The sensational doubles duo of freshman Michael Sun and junior carried over their success from the fall with a 6-4 victory at the No. 1 singles position to start the day. Junior veteran Ryan Cheng and sophomore Cody Lin were sure to build on the momentum of King and Sun, taking the No. 2 doubles match in a tight 7-6 battle to secure the doubles point for the Bulldogs. Lin has really showcased his skills of late, being the first to come off the court with an ensuing 6-3, 6-4 singles win at the No. 6 position over Cal Poly's Nakayama. King followed with a similarly impressive display of confidence, taking down his opponent at the No. 2 singles spot 6-3, 7-5 to put Yale up 3-0. Despite a loss at the No. 5 position from junior Andrew Heller, Cheng was able to seal the match for the Bulldogs at the No. 3 singles spot with a convincing 6-1, 7-5 victory.
