Mahon, who joined the Yale staff last year, brings strongthrowing credentials to New Haven. She was the 2002 U.S.Indoor andOutdoor Champion with a throw of 23.56 meters in the 20-poundweight and 72.01 meters in the hammer. She broke the Americanrecord in the hammer three times in 2002 and held the record untilthe spring of 2004, when it was broken by Erin Gilreath with athrow of 72.12 meters. Norgren Mahon has been a member of two WorldChampionships Teams (2001, 2003), placing seventh in the ParisWorld Championships in 2003. She was also a member of this pastsummer's U.S. Olympic Team, competing in Athens. She has beenranked in the top 12 in the world for the past three years in thewomen's hammer, with a high ranking of fifth in 2002. She is a 1996graduate of the University of Vermont, where she competed in thehammer throw. She has worked as a full time high school Englishteacher since 1997 and currently teaches at Amity High School inWoodbridge, CT.
