3 QUESTIONS FOR CARTON

Biggest soccer influences and why? "My biggest soccer influence has been and continues to be Vincent Kompany. At an early age, I made the transition to center back. Kompany's fierce determination, steadfast resolve, vocal leadership and staunch defending immediately stood out to me, and I have always attempted to emulate my game after his example. I have always prided myself on being an `old fashioned defender' like Kompany, one who cherishes the opportunity to be hard in the tackle, aggressive in the pursuit of attacking players and simple yet smart in the buildup of attacking play."

Do you have an idol or hero? "My family is my greatest motivation. My parents' ability to juggle their professional lives and maintain active roles in daily lives and extracurricular pursuits of my sister and me has always stood out. They continue to set an example for the work ethic that I attempt to exhibit and the values that I hope to embody."

Why Yale? "Yale offers the ideal balance between a world-class education and the opportunity to play competitive, Division I soccer. Each time I visited campus, I was impressed by the sense of 'community' that Yale students exhibit, whether in their studies or extracurriculars. As I have gotten to know the soccer coaching staff as well, I share their enthusiasm for bringing an Ivy League title back to Yale."
