Trevor Banks first joined Kylie Stannard’s staff as an assistant coach in February 2023.
While overseeing the recruiting process for Yale Men’s Soccer, Banks has played a key role in the program's success over the last couple of seasons. He helped Yale win the inaugural Ivy League Tournament title in 2023 and secure a berth in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, including notching the program’s first NCAA victory since 1999—defeating No. 19 Bryant.
Banks has contributed to the development of several standout players, including the 2023 Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year, TJ Presthus. He has also helped mentor seven All-Ivy recipients, one Ivy League Tournament Most Outstanding Player, five Ivy League All-Tournament Team selections, four United Soccer Coaches All-Region honorees, seven College Sports Communication Academic All-District recipients, and two Academic All-Ivy recipients.
Banks, who holds a United States Soccer Federation A-Senior license, came to Yale from Michigan Stars Football Club, where he served as head coach and sporting director. Michigan Stars FC competes in the National Independent Soccer Association, the third tier of professional soccer in the United States. During his tenure, he helped guide the club to a record number of overall wins in a season, led the league in goals against average, and secured the club’s first-ever playoff berth in the 2022 NISA Cup Playoffs with three matches to spare in the season. Additionally, Michigan Stars FC captured the 2022 Independent Cup championship, marking the first trophy in club history. Under Banks’ leadership, five players were named to the NISA Best XI.
Previously, Banks was the first Division I soccer head coach at Chicago State University, where he built the program to compete in the Western Athletic Conference. In Chicago State’s inaugural season under Banks, the team secured its first Division I win in the season opener against Northwestern University of the Big 10. During his tenure, the team posted an overall GPA of 3.33.
While in Chicago, Banks also assisted in the inaugural season for Chicago House Athletic Club, which competed in the National Independent Soccer Association. He worked alongside Chicago Fire Hall of Famer CJ Brown, helping the team earn two NISA Best XI selections.
Prior to his time in Chicago, Banks coached at Brown University, joining the staff in July 2016 as an assistant coach before being elevated to associate head coach in February 2017. Banks played an integral role in all aspects of the program and helped develop multiple award-winning players on and off the field, including one College Soccer News Preseason All-American (Jack Hagstrom), three United Soccer Coaches All-East Region selections, 19 All-Ivy honorees, one All-New England Freshman Team selection, eight Academic All-Ivy selections, and one United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America honoree. He also oversaw Brown’s recruiting efforts, helping secure two classes ranked in the Top Drawer Soccer Top 20.
In addition to his duties at Brown, Banks served as the technical director and coach of the 2002 Elite National Premier League team with Bruno United FC. In 2019, Banks led his 2002 Bruno team to the US Club Soccer Rhode Island State Championship and the national finals of the US Club Soccer National Cup.
Banks also has coaching experience at Villanova University, the United States Merchant Marine Academy, the Long Island Rough Riders, and Barry University. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at William Woods University.
A native of Carencro, Louisiana, Banks earned a degree in Communication Arts from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 2009 and a master’s degree in Athletic Administration from William Woods University in 2010.
