NEW HAVEN, Conn. – First-year forward Camilla Emsbo (Lakewood, Colo.), who had a season-high 14 rebounds in a 62-51 win at Army West Point last Tuesday for the Yale women's basketball team, has been named Ivy League Rookie of the Week. The league announced the award on Monday.
Emsbo's 14 boards helped Yale to its first win at West Point since 1998 and second win in 16 games there. She also had 14 points -- for her third double-double in the last four games -- and blocked a pair of shots.
This is the third Ivy League Rookie of the Week honor this season for Emsbo, who also earned the honor for the week of Nov. 5 and the week of Dec. 3. She is second in the Ivy League in rebounds per game (9.1) and blocks per game (1.8). She is second on the team in scoring (11.5 points per game). Defensively, she has helped Yale hold six of last seven opponents to 56 or fewer points.
Emsbo was a five-star ESPN recruit out of Lakewood High, and ESPN ranked her as the No. 34 best recruit in the country (sixth-best at her position). She was the Gatorade Player of the Year for Colorado.
Emsbo is in Branford College at Yale. Her identical twin sister, Kira, plays for Princeton.
Yale plays Central Connecticut State Thursday at 12:00 p.m.
