Varsity Eight Goes 6-0 At Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational
It was a very strong opening weekend for the Yale women's crew. On the second day of the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational, the Bulldogs won all five races against Wisconsin and Minnesota.
Yale's varsity eight was a perfect 6-0 at the Invitational and the five crews combined for an impressive 13-2 record.
"We got the job done this weekend, but we are just getting started," said Will Porter, The Friends of YWC Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "There is work to be done. As we get settled back into the Housatonic, we need to find more speed."
The varsity eight was involved in the closest race of the day. Yale finished in 5:42.751, less than a second faster than Wisconsin (5:43.646). Minnesota (5:45.741) was a close third.
The second varsity eight won by nearly two seconds over Minnesota – 5:49.477 to 5:51.484. Wisconsin (5:52.625) was third.
Yale remained undefeated in the varsity four, cruising to a nearly four-second win over Wisconsin (second) and Minnesota.
The second varsity four and third varsity eight also were easy winners.
"I like the way this team races," Porter said. "They really seem to enjoy it."
Next up for the Bulldogs is the Ivy-Big Ten Double Dual on Mar. 30.
