NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's lacrosse team faces a challenging schedule in 2019, as the Bulldogs will take on five teams ranked in the IWLCA preseason poll -- including No. 1 Boston College. The full schedule was announced Friday.

This is Yale's fourth season under Erica Bamford, Yale's Joel E. Smilow, Class of 1954 Head Coach of Women's Lacrosse.  Yale returns four players who started eight or more games last season, including second team All-Region honoree Izzy Nixon (Greenwich, Conn.), a senior attacker. She has been elected Yale's captain by her teammates.

The 15-game slate includes seven Ivy League games and eight non-league games. This marks the 10th year for the Ivy League women's lacrosse tournament, in which the top four teams in the regular season standings compete for the league's automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. This year's tournament takes place at Columbia May 3 and May 5.

The Bulldogs open the season with a non-league game, visiting Albany Feb. 16. Here is a breakdown of the schedule:

  • Yale's regular-season schedule consists of 15 games. That includes seven games against Ivy League opponents (Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Penn and Princeton).
  • The regular-season schedule includes eight non-league games:
  • Feb. 16 at Albany
  • Feb. 20 vs. Quinnipiac
  • Feb. 27 vs. Hartford
  • Mar. 7 vs. Niagara
  • Mar. 10 vs. Canisius
  • Mar. 30 at Towson
  • Apr. 10 vs. UConn
  • Apr. 16 at Boston College
  • In addition to the Ivy League, Yale plays games against teams from five other conferences:
  • America East Conference (Albany, Hartford)
  • American Athletic Conference (UConn)
  • Atlantic Coast Conference (Boston College)
  • Colonial Athletic Association (Towson)
  • Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (Canisius, Niagara, Quinnipiac)
  • There are eight regular-season home games and seven regular-season road games.
  • Yale plays games in six different states (Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island). Twenty of the players on Yale's roster have at least one game in their home state this year.
  • Yale plays five games against teams that were ranked the IWLCA preseason national poll (No. 1 Boston College, No. 8 Princeton, No. 10 Penn, No. 11 Towson, No. 25 Dartmouth).
  • The schedule includes four games against teams that played in the 2018 NCAA tournament: Boston College (NCAA runners-up), Penn (advanced to second round), Princeton (advanced to second round) and Towson (advanced to second round).
  • On Saturday Apr. 27 vs. Dartmouth Yale will host Senior Day, as the Bulldogs pay tribute to the  three members of the Class of 2019:
  • The top four teams in the Ivy League regular season standings will take part in the Ivy League Tournament, which determines the team that receives the league's automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. Columbia hosts the tournament, which starts with the semifinals on Friday May 3 (No. 3 vs. No. 2 and No. 4 vs. No. 1). The championship game takes place on Sunday May 5.
  • The Ivy League is one of 14 leagues that receive an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. Additionally, last season one Ivy team received an at-large berth. To be selected for an at-large berth a team must have a .500 or better overall won-lost record.
  • Selections for the NCAA tournament, which includes 26 teams (14 automatic qualifiers and 12 at-large), will be announced on Sunday May 5. The tournament begins Friday May 10 and Sunday May 12 with first- and second-round games at campus sites. The winners of those series advance to the quarterfinals, which take place at campus sites Saturday May 18 or Sunday May 19. The NCAA semifinals (Friday May 24) and championship (Sunday May 26) take place at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md.
  • Live video of home games and select road games is scheduled to be available on ESPN+.
  • Links to live stats for all games will be posted on the schedule page of yalebulldogs.com when available.
