  • Ten Bulldogs Earn NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete Honors

    The Yale softball team had quite a bit of success in the classroom last year. Ten Bulldogs earned NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2014-15 academic year. The players recognized for their outstanding work are: Sarah Onorato, Riley Hughes, Kylie Williamson, Allie Souza, Camille Weisenbach, Rachel Paris, Carolyn McGuire, Ceri Godinez, Maddie Wuelfing and Alexa Caruso.
  • Weisenbach, Skinner Earn All-Ivy Recognition

    Two of the young players who figure to have big roles in Yale’s bright future have earned All-Ivy recognition for their play this spring. Sophomore outfielder Camille Weisenbach, who led the team with a .315 overall average, and freshman third baseman Allison Skinner, who had the team’s top average in league games at .328, both were named to the second team.
  • Souza Elected 2015-16 Captain

    As a senior at Westhill High School in Stamford, Conn., Allie Souza served as the captain of the softball, basketball and soccer teams. She will close out her Yale career as a leader as well. Souza has been elected captain of the 2015-16 Yale softball team. The announcement was made following a team vote at the annual post season banquet on Wednesday.

    The 2015 Yale softball team gathered one final time in the Kiphuth Trophy Room on Wednesday to celebrate the season, recognize the senior class and hand out the team awards.
  • Efflandt, Paris Shine In 1-0 Victory At Brown

    Friday at Dewitt Family Field, Yale honored four seniors who have made outstanding contributions to the softball program over the last four years. Saturday at the Brown Softball Field a pair of sophomores showed that the future is quite bright as well. Lindsay Efflandt tossed a five-hit shutout, and Rachel Paris singled home the only run of the game in the seventh inning as the Bulldogs earned a doubleheader split with a 1-0 victory.
  • Three-Run Seventh Earns Yale Thrilling Split On Senior Day

    Senior Day ended in dramatic fashion. Allison Skinner’s single scored Laina Do with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as Yale earned a thrilling 7-6 victory over Brown and a split of an Ivy League doubleheader at Dewitt Family Field. Camille Weisenbach’s two-run home run had tied the score earlier in the inning.
  • Four Game Series With Brown Includes Senior Day Celebration

    The Bulldogs will wrap up the home portion of their schedule for sure on Friday when they host Brown in a doubleheader at 2 p.m. at Dewitt Family Field. The same two teams meet again for two games on Saturday in Providence in a 12:30 p.m. start that could be the season finale.
  • Rain Thwarts Yale’s Bid For Doubleheader Split With Princeton

    The Bulldogs appeared well on their way to knocking off Princeton in the second game of an Ivy League doubleheader at Class of 1895 Field when Mother Nature stepped in. Heavy winds and rain forced the game to be stopped with Yale in front 5-0 and one out in the top of the fifth inning.
  • Bulldogs Hope To Play Spoiler At Princeton; Doubleheader Now A Noon Start

    Yale dealt a serious blow to Harvard’s postseason aspirations on Sunday, knocking the Crimson three games behind Dartmouth in the Ivy League North Division with a 3-1 victory in the second game of a doubleheader. The Bulldogs hope to play the spoiler role again when they travel to Princeton on Wednesday for a doubleheader that will now start at noon at Class of 1895 Field due to the threat of afternoon rain in New Jersey. The Tigers sit in second place in the South Division, trailing Penn by one game in the loss column.

    Lindsay Efflandt’s resiliency typifies the 2015 Yale softball team. After struggling in yesterday’s first game against Harvard, Efflandt responded with perhaps her best game of the season in the circle. She tossed a four-hitter with four strikeouts as the Bulldogs earned a split of an Ivy League doubleheader with a 3-1 over the Crimson at Soldiers Field.
  • Skinner Belts First Career Home Run But Bulldogs Drop Doubleheader At Harvard

    Camille Weisenbach had five hits, including two doubles and a triple, and freshman Allison Skinner hit her first career home run, but the Yale softball team dropped an Ivy League doubleheader at Harvard. The Crimson scored nine runs in the first inning of the opener en route to a 10-1 victory. The Bulldogs responded well in the second game, building a 4-2 lead, but Harvard rallied to escape with a 6-5 win on a gorgeous afternoon at Soldiers Field.

    The Yale softball team begins a busy stretch of Ivy League games with a four-game series at Harvard this weekend. The teams play doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday with the first pitch slated for 12:30 p.m. both days. The Ivy League Digital Network has video of all four games.
  • Mandi Schwartz Marrow Donor Registration Drive Adds 761 Potential Life-Savers

    Fresh off the news of yet another life-saving donation from a previous drive, the Yale Athletics department hosted its annual Mandi Schwartz Marrow Donor Registration Drive Thursday at Commons -- and added 761 more potential life-savers to the Be The Match Registry®. The Bulldogs’ efforts on Thursday will no doubt add to the total number of donor matches for patients with life-threatening illnesses located through the six previous drives. That figure is now at least 29, following the recent donation by senior Peter Ambiel (Los Altos, Calif.) of the men’s soccer team. Yale has now added a total of 5,299 people to the registry.
  • Onorato’s Big Day Helps Yale Earn Split With Sacred Heart

    Sarah Onorato has enjoyed success against Sacred Heart throughout her career at Yale, but she saved her best performance for last. Onorato, a senior who entered Wednesday’s doubleheader with a .333 lifetime average against the Pioneers, had four hits, including a home run, and knocked in four runs as the Bulldogs split two games with Sacred Heart on a gorgeous afternoon at Dewitt Family Field.

    Dartmouth showed this weekend why it is the favorite to repeat as Ivy League champion. Kristen Rumley and Morgan McCalmon each tossed complete game shutouts as the Big Green swept a doubleheader from Yale, winning the first game 8-0 and taking the second game 7-0.
  • Dartmouth Uses Long Ball To Sweep Yale

    It couldn’t have been comforting for Lindsay Efflandt, Yale’s starting pitcher in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader against Dartmouth, to watch as the Big Green banged out 15 hits, including four home runs, in a 16-2 victory in the first game. Efflandt, though, rose to the challenge, holding the powerful Dartmouth lineup in check for five innings before the Big Green broke through for five runs in the sixth inning en route to a 5-1 win and a doubleheader sweep.

    Sarah Onorato and the rest of the Bulldogs softball team look to extend their winning when they host Dartmouth in two double headers this weekend. Onorato, the senior captain from North Reading, Massachusetts, has enjoyed a remarkable career at Yale and is this week’s Total Mortgage Spotlight Athlete of the Week.
  • First-Place Dartmouth Visits For Four Games; Saturday Now A 2 p.m. Start

    The Yale softball team will have an opportunity to make a move in the Ivy League North Division standings when first-place Dartmouth visits Dewitt Family Field for doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday. The first pitch on Saturday has been pushed back to 2 p.m. due to the threat of overnight rain, while Sunday remains a 12:30 p.m. start. There will be free audio of all four games from the Ivy League Digital Network.
  • Late Rallies Lift Bulldogs To Doubleheader Sweep At Hartford

    Yale built some positive momentum for a key Ivy League four-game weekend series with Dartmouth by sweeping Hartford at the UH Softball Field. Hannah Brennan’s two-run single in the sixth inning snapped a 4-4 tie and lifted the Bulldogs to a 6-4 victory over the Hawks in the first game. Laina Do had two hits and knocked in two runs as Yale completed the sweep with a 5-1 victory in a second game that was shortened to five innings due to darkness.

  • Bulldogs Drop Doubleheader To Columbia

    Columbia used a pair of late rallies to sweep an Easter Sunday Ivy League doubleheader from Yale at Dewitt Family Field. The Lions scored three runs in the fifth inning and tacked on a run in the sixth en route to a 4-0 victory in the first game and tallied five times in the sixth inning and twice in the seventh in an 8-4 win in the second game.
  • Wild Ending Lifts Yale Over Penn In First Game

    It had been a frustrating first six innings for Yale in Saturday’s first game against Penn. The Bulldogs had runners on base throughout but couldn’t get a big hit. So they went to a different means. Alert and aggressive base running from Alexa Caruso, Lyndsey Glover and Brittany Labbadia allowed the Yale to walk-off with a thrilling 2-1 victory.
  • Change To Schedule, Bulldogs Now Host Doubleheaders Saturday & Sunday

    With the forecast calling for rain in New Haven on Friday, the Yale softball team will now play its doubleheaders with Columbia and Penn on Saturday and Sunday. The first pitch on both days is set for 12:30 p.m. Who the Bulldogs play each day is still to be determined. Friday's Brown-Penn doubleheader is still on. If that doubleheader is completed, Yale will play Penn on Saturday and Columbia on Sunday. If not, the Bulldogs host Columbia on Saturday and Penn on Sunday. Free audio on the Ivy League Digital Network will be available on Saturday. Audio for Sunday is TBA.
  • Slugfest Goes To UMass 16-6

    Camille Weisenbach continued her torrid hitting but the Yale softball team ran into a powerful UMass squad and dropped its home opener 16-6 at Dewitt Family Field. Weisenbach was 3-for-3 and knocked in pair of runs to lead the Bulldogs (4-9). Over her last three games, Weisenbach is 8-for-10 (.800) with two doubles and seven RBI, and on the season is now hitting .444.
  • Home At Last: Wednesday’s Game With UMass Shifted To New Haven

    Finally, a home game for the Yale softball team. With the field at UMass still unplayable, the Bulldogs will now host the Minutewomen in a single game on Wednesday. The first pitch at Dewitt Family Field is slated for 4 p.m.
  • Weisenbach Has Big Day As Yale Splits Ivy Opening Doubleheader At Cornell

    Yale’s bats came alive in a big way in its first Ivy League game. The Bulldogs scored a season-high 11 runs in an 11-4 victory over the Big Red on a cold afternoon at Niemand*Robison Field. Camille Weisenbach led the way. She was 3-for-4, scored three runs and knocked in four.

  • Change To Weekend Softball Schedule
    March 26, 2015
    The weather has once again impacted the Yale softball schedule. The Bulldogs will now play only a doubleheader at Cornell this weekend, on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Friday’s doubleheader at Princeton has been postponed until later in April. With Saturday’s forecast in Ithaca calling for a high of only 25, it was decided to move the Cornell doubleheader to Sunday.
